Aggregated data by industry sector will be provided to the DER Connections Review Working Group and may be included in any future reporting on this initiative.
The OEB has issued the final Notice of Amendments to the Distribution System Code regarding the connection of non-residential electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The amendments establish the requirement for licensed electricity distributors to follow a standardized and streamlined process (the EVCCP) for connecting non-residential EV charging infrastructure that requires modifications or additions to the distributor's distribution system. These amendments will come into force on May 27, 2024.
The OEB has issued a letter summarizing recent guidance and resources to help electricity distributors in planning their systems for the efficient integration of electric vehicles (EVs). The letter also informs the sector of an expansion of scope to the Distributed Energy Resources Connections Review consultation to review matters relating to system readiness for EV charger connections.
The OEB has issued a Bulletin providing guidance to distributors regarding residential customer connections to support electric vehicle adoption and electrification. The Bulletin also reminds distributors of their obligations under the Distribution System Code (DSC) in relation to residential subdivision connections and service upgrades.
The OEB has released a consultant report that examines electricity delivery rates for commercial EV charging and explores alternative rate design options that could support the efficient integration of EVs in Ontario.
The report focuses on electricity delivery rates applicable to commercial EV fleets (e.g., public transportation, delivery trucks, etc.) and public EV fast charging stations.
Stakeholders interested in participating and providing feedback on this report are invited to a meeting on May 24, 2023. See the OEB letter below for further details on how to participate. The OEB recognizes that this topic is of interest to many parties, and therefore welcomes feedback from a broad cross-section of industry stakeholders, whether or not they are directly involved with EVs.

[Update on May 31, 2023]: In response to a stakeholder request, the OEB issued a letter extending the due date for written feedback on the report to June 14, 2023.
As part of its first line of effort, the OEB procured a consultant that completed a survey of local distribution companies and EV charging service providers in late 2022, and produced a “what we heard” report on January 27, 2023.
The report provides insight from the survey respondents on system readiness, delivery costs, and connections and will inform next steps in relation to EV integration.

As part of the OEB’s Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Connections Review, Tranche 5 of the DER Connections Review will begin in late January 2023 and include ongoing consideration of issues related to EV connections.
